Local VFW Post 108 made a generous donation to Chillicothe High School's annual After Prom, Monday.
"We are very happy to donate a check for $2,000 for Chillicothe High School's A Safe After Prom," said VFW Post 108 Treasurer Bob Leach. "We're all veterans of combat situations. Some of our oldest members are still World War II veterans going all the way to the recent wars in Afghanistan. Our belief is we faced the danger when we were deployed overseas. The danger should not be to students here in the United States."
Leach said members of Post 108 found that one-third of teen traffic deaths occur April through June, which is why they felt after prom was a worthy cause to support.
Cavs Media & BPA member Alexis Carroll and BPA President Haley Laughlin with VFW Post 108 Treasurer Mr. Bob Leach (Ivry Park/Cavs Media).
"We understand that A Safe After Prom is a good alternative to that," Leach said, "[and] that will have the students after the prom in a safe place."
Chillicothe's After Prom will take place in the Hatton and Cox gyms during the early hours of Sunday, April 16th, under the Mardi Gras theme with various activities, such as inflatables, laser tag, bungee run, air hockey, ping pong, and casino games. Tickets for 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. event are $10 per student.
Leach said that he served for the U.S. Army for 22 years, was deployed in the combat zone of Bosnia, and is a 1976 graduate of Chillicothe High School.
"I never thought my path would take me into a combat situation then right back here to Chillicothe to help out, and I'm very happy to be able to do this today."
Community members who would also like to support the CHS After Prom may do so by purchasing from the committee's Amazon wish list.
