Groundhog Day Predicts 6 More Weeks of Winter

On February 2nd, also known as Groundhog Day, Cavs News Reporter Emma Brown caught up with Chillicothe Chelsey in the CHS court yard.

Emma: Chelsey, what happened the other morning?

Chillicothe Chelsey: I was making my breakfast, getting ready to go to Groundhog School, minding my own business when I turned around I saw that I had a shadow.

Emma: How did that make you feel?

Chillicothe Chelsey: Terrible. Six more weeks of winter means 6 more weeks of people upset about the cold weather and students mad when there isn’t any snow or snow days.

Emma: What are your plans for the next 6 weeks?

Chillicothe Chelsey: I’m going to probably lay low and start planning spring break.

Groundhog Day superstition says that if a groundhog sees its shadow due to clear weather, the groundhog will go back into its den and wait for winter weather to pass for the following 6 weeks. If the groundhog does not see a shadow due to cloudy skies, then spring is expected to come early.
